Terrifically Tasty Thursday – Martian Cookies

There’s other recipes for “Martian Cookies” floating around out there, but this recipe that I concocted was named by my oldest son many years ago.  It was inspired by a similar Mrs. Fields recipe, but there’s a few tweaks.

These cookies are great for PMS-induced chocolate cravings, gorging after a breakup, or just anytime you want to have the best chocolate + sugar rush.  They are…outta this world!  And if I know ANYTHING…GIRL…I know cookies.

Martian Cookies

Ingredients:

2.5 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. sea salt
1/2 cup Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 cup white sugar
1 cup salted butter, softened for thirty minutes
3 large eggs
3 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup semisweet chocolate bars, crumbled into big bits

Yield:  About 3 dozen

Directions:

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder with a wire whisk and set aside.

In your mixer, blend sugars. Add butter and beat to form a grainy paste. Scrape down the sides, then add the eggs and vanilla. Beat at medium speed til combined.

Add the flour mix and chocolate chips and bits and blend just until combined. Don’t overmix.

Drop dough by gooey heaping tablespoons (I use a small ice cream scoop) onto parchment paper. Make sure they are about two inches apart. Bake for 22 minutes. Immediately place on wire rack to cool.

These are best straight out of the oven with a glass of ice cold milk for dunking.

And when the martians DO finally land, if you feed them these, then they won’t eat YOU <because they need you around to make more of these.>
